Brusnika was founded in Tyumen, Siberia in 2004 with the goal of specializing in the construction of democratic urban housing across Russia’s largest cities. What makes the company so unique, is that it was the first to introduce architectural and urban innovations – that were only used on a small scale in elite housing projects in central Moscow – to affordable housing developments.

The Need for a Common Data Environment and Consistent Reporting
Brusnika began its BIM journey in 2017 aiming to digitize its workflows to increase reporting efficiency and consistency across all project stakeholders to retrieve quality data and metrics. While the company was already using Autodesk Revit to retrieve data and information from their models, their storage management system was outdated and inconsistent, leading to data loss and inefficiencies.
“As the business was expanding, the process of managing and storing design data became more difficult due to the lack of formalized reporting structure and coordination,” says Artem Deryushkin, BIM Manager at Brusnika. “With more projects coming online, we needed a solution that would increase efficiency in reporting, structure project data to identify and eliminate project pain points, and increase collaboration.”
Choosing A Solution to Optimize Workflows
Brusnika’s BIM team wanted to understand what products could potentially improve internal collaboration and positively impact project performance. The first step was the development of a BIM standardization strategy and roadmap through the exploration of construction techniques and an internal evaluation of construction processes.
After evaluating several solutions, the team decided to deploy BIM 360 as the common data environment (CDE) for collaboration and data management as it met their desired business outcomes of quality, cost, and time savings.
“BIM 360 is a valuable tool and we selected it as our construction management platform for two reasons,” says Deryushkin. “Firstly, it provided the ability for us to unite all stakeholders in one place. Secondly, due to its interoperability with our other IT systems we’ve garnered greater insight into our project data.”
Brusnika believes that integrated web services are the future of construction as it provides the opportunity to connect and access information from any device anytime and anywhere. Integration of BIM 360 with its internal IT systems made the selection a no-brainer.
The company’s goal was to use BIM 360 to organize and measure processes using its analytic capabilities to optimize workflows. Implementation was broken down into three phases:
- Develop rules and standards for setting up projects and folder structure, design reviews, and naming convention;
- Overcome the challenge of adapting users to new technology; and
- Integrate BIM 360 with internal IT system.

Getting the Team Onboard
To ensure the successful implementation of BIM 360, Brusnika looked to the Autodesk extended Account and Construction Customer Success team to assist, support, and train 25 Project Mangers. The team worked together to create customized trainings that were tailored toward those specialists as they were responsible for the entire design and construction process in the company.
By splitting the larger group into smaller teams, the company’s project managers were able to tailor the focus of the training to get the team onboard and familiar with the platform.
To ensure adoption was maintained throughout the business, Brusnika hired a BIM Manager within each of the five strategic cities where the company operates. This helped to drive efficiencies in using BIM 360 across the entire company, while engaging with all project stakeholders in one environment for design review and coordination.
As the team continued to use the platform, they worked with Autodesk to refine processes based on data to get better results.
A Common Data Environment Leads to Time Savings and Scalability
According to the statistics provided by the project management team in Brusnika's Novosibirsk branch, the company reduced the time of design coordination by 95%. It used to take 15-25 minutes– depending on the complexity of the drawing – to compare two drawings. Now, it takes between 1-5 minutes, freeing up time to coordinate on more important tasks. With more than 50 specialists involved in a single company’s project, organizing the team’s work in a common data environment, reduces the risk of information loss. As a result of the successful deployment of BIM 360 on 36 projects in less than 10 months, Brusnika was able to scale its business with new projects, while opening new offices.
The “Expert RA” credit rating agency has also recently assigned a credit rating of ruВВВ to Brusnika, indicating a stable level of creditworthiness and financial stability of the company, which positively impacts its brand.
