BIM 360 Field Now Offers "Excel-ready" Report Exports

BIM 360 Field offers powerful reporting capabilitiesBIM 360 Field reports are a very popular feature with our customers.  They provide construction project analytics around open/closed issues, tasks, checklist observations, subcontractor performance and more.  Getting summary level views, filtering by company, location or type, and quickly seeing the status of items helps to keep projects and teams on track and on time.  

While BIM 360 Field is used on many projects to replace spreadsheet-based workflows around issues, tasks, checklists and daily updates, Microsoft Excel remains a very popular and important tool for the construction business.  Excel is often used in the office to perform trend analysis and cross-project reports that provide insights into business performance.  But, until today, connecting project information collected on mobile devices on the job site with the business reporting requirements in the trailer and office hasn’t always been easy.

A new feature now available in BIM 360 Field is raw Excel exports. We’ve taken 20+ of our most popular reports and added the capability to export the data in “raw” CSV or XLS format. What this means is that the data coming from BIM 360 Field reports can be fully manipulated in Excel for more granular analytics and combination with other data for activities like cross-project reporting.

Hasn’t BIM 360 Field always had the ability to export reports in CSV and XLS formats?

Yes.  BIM 360 Field reports have -- and continue to offer -- PDF, XLS, CSV and RTF export format options. However, the XLS and CSV export formats contained items like merges cells and formatting. This resulted in exports that looked like this:

With these old export formats, the person who received them and opened them in Excel would need to basically re-create the data in a separate Excel sheet to clean it up and be able to run filters, sort the data, group information and run operations such as subtotals.  We often heard this could take many manual hours per month, and was an error-prone process.

By improving these export options to provide “raw” Excel data, the resulting data now appears like this:
