BIM 360 Team, Autodesk's design collaboration platform, has added new features that center on improving designers’ understanding of design changes and providing more file operations within the product.  Read on for the full details of the improved experience:

#1 - Version CompareUnderstanding Design Changes in 2D and 3D

Understanding what has changed between two versions of a design is a challenge, especially for large, complex 3D models. This is especially challenging for design team leads, who may not use Revit, but want to review the latest project model in their browser. Today we are introducing a new tool that will help project managers, designers and QA/QC teams better understand design changes across versions of a file, whether it’s 3D models or 2D sheets. Using this tool, users can compare two versions of a design file and easily understand what was Added/Removed/Modified between the two versions. They can quickly browse through the list of changes or drill down into each individual change to see exactly what was altered (e.g. shape, position, property etc.)

Thanks for reporting a problem. We'll attach technical data about this session to help us figure out the issue. Which of these best describes the problem?

Any other details or context?

To start using this tool, simply choose a Revit file that has multiple versions and click the “Versions” dropdown choose "Compare Versions". The video below will demonstrate how you can turn on/off the various filters such as “Disciplines Affected” or “Modification Types” to narrow down the list of changes that you are interested in reviewing.

  • “Disciplines Affected” include: Architecture, Structure, Electrical, Piping and Mechanical.
  • “Modification Types” include: Shape Changes, Transformations, and Property Changes.

Users can even get details on each change to understand it better:

Users also have a choice of “Overlay mode” or “Side by Side” mode that can be toggled from the toolbar.

When a user clicks on the “Search + Filter” text, BIM 360 Team automatically presents categories/groups that they can use to narrow down search results. This allows them to look at changes in specific groups, e.g. Ceilings or Doors.

Currently this capability is only available for Revit files, but we will be expanding support for other file types soon.

#2 - Better experience for basic file operations: Move and Copy, Rename, Drag and Drop

We have updated our standard behaviors for basic file operations so you can now do more with your files in BIM 360 Team  (e.g. drag-and-drop “Move/Copy” on multiple files). This enhanced experience will allow our you to be more productive when doing basic file management operations. The updates include:

  • Move/Copy folder now has "Create New Folder" option

Autodesk BIM 360 Team Move Copy features

  • In-place “Rename” action

  • Drag & drop onto folder hierarchy breadcrumb to move files

  • Fixed bug to resolve issue where multi-selecting files and drag-drop to move was only moving one file instead of the entire selected set.

#3 - Resolved issues with accessing BIM 360 Team from China

Several customers were reporting issues with accessing BIM 360 Team from within China. We won’t bore you with the technical details, but we have now resolved these issues and there should be no access issues in the latest release.
